It's about time things started picking up. I was getting a little worried. Bikes and shenanigans are good I suppose but I wanted to see some science fiction and H. G.'s idea of what an air war would be like.

Then he routed about for matches to utilise Mr. Butteridge’s cigars; but here again luck was on his side, and he couldn’t find any wherewith to set light to the gas above him. Or else he would have dropped in a flare, a splendid but transitory pyrotechnic display.

I was surprised they weren't using helium but then I remembered the Hindenberg burning in 1937. It turns out that scientists would have just started investigating helium when this book was written.

Germany Denounces The Monroe Doctrine.
Ambiguous Attitude Of Japan.

Funny he would pick Germany and Japan in 1909 although I guess tensions with Germany would have already been leading towards World War I (starting in 1914) and Japan had already fought the Chinese in 1895 and the Russians in 1905.

district flooded by new and prbaa things

I'm not sure what a prbaa thing is. Maybe a typo? I can't figure out what the correct word would be though.
