I keep waiting for Steerforth to turn out to be some sort of bastard. Sure seems like there is a lot of foreshadowing going on. I guess it'll involve Em'ly after that bit about her being better off drowned way back in the beginning.

About time someone stood up for the kid. Good to see the Murdstones getting thwarted. I guess something else must go wrong for him though.

I had two or three shillings of my week’s money in my pocket ... and with heartfelt emotion begged Mrs. Micawber to accept of them as a loan. But that lady, kissing me, and making me put them back in my pocket, replied that she couldn’t think of it.

I was really expecting these people to take advantage of him too. Nice that for once everything didn't go wrong for him (yet?).

I'm horrible at names so I had to search for "Chillip" (electronic text does have it's benefits). It turns out Mr. Chillip is the doctor that was present at the delivery at the start of the book.

I had thought his mother was going to be gone or dead or something but now I see I misinterpreted:

It touches me nearly now, although I tell it lightly, to recollect how eager I was to leave my happy home; to think how little I suspected what I did leave for ever.

I thought he was leaving his home for ever but I guess it was the happy home that he would not see again.
